It was a good Saturday 3.29.08
Tuesday, April 8th, 2008Yes, yes. Picking up WMC coverage where I left off, late, but still great:
The drive from way down South through Miami was actually pleasant, windows down, dope music steelo.
Sometimes I super-love my city.
Said what’s up to Ricky Ross, moving chickens, lions, and tigers, and bears……
There will be traffic (c) me via Daniel Day Lewis
On my way to the Stones Throw jam, ran across the kind of things that make me love this city (please believe I’m constantly on some love/hate vibe with the 305). Walking up the street, after finally finding parking, and I stumble upon some street art, and then the random capoeira circle…
It was great seeing girls & boys of all ages involved….but this dood was going-in on these kids, no holds bar. No need for photo correction, his eyes naturally glow possessed-red.
I kept it moving and finally got to the Stones Throw spot. I walk in, and bam, superstars just hanging around.
Madlib on the decks, Peanut Butter Wolf in odd garb on the mic.
The kid, Vega, from Fresh Basil
A-Trak and DJ Mehdi did a back to back, it ’twas interesting.
Before that, Madlib was dropping the beats to give people the screw-face.
The crowd was getting into it, a tad bit rowdy, but in the good way. At one point, the speakers on the floor died, and only the DJ monitors could be heard. The source of the problem was found to be right in front of me, kind of implicating that I knocked out a power chord, but It wasn’t me! (c) Shaggy
When I say getting into it, I meant getting IN to it…This photo reminds me of another post I never put up, dedicated to goofy club people.
Upon leaving the Stones Throw party, we headed over to a Peruvian spot. Had to rep me pais.
After that, Samantha (above), Manuvers y yo hit this King Britt party at a swanky hotel on Ocean. You can’t really tell, but the DJ is perched above on the 2nd floor, with the majority of the grooving going on in the narrow hotel lobby.
SMH.
We left that spot after a short while. Sam + Manuvers dropped me off @ Jazid for the Raw Fusion party. They didn’t go in….suckers. Apparently the “free” RSVP meant $40 at the door, but me being who I am….
This was the third year the Raw Fusion party went down, yet my first time attending. Word on this event is that every year is rammed and incredible.
My favorite DJ on the planet, Benji B, got on the decks shortly after I arrived. Benji B has been my favorite for some years now because of his incredible selection and mixing skills. He’s got a show out of London on 1Xtra that is essential!! I’ve got a GREAT Benji B X me X London story, but I’ll save that for a later post.
This is Taneisha, from Chicago. She is a great dancer and really appreciated being out of the Chicago cold.
PACKED.
Before I was out, I saw Bobby McFerrin’s son, Taylor McFerrin performing. All in all, a dope night!
