That seemed to be the theme for the BET Honors which aired last night on BET. I didn’t really like show last year, so I wasn’t sitting around waiting to see it this year. Well I was pleasantly surprised when I watched clips this morning of the show. The majority of the performances were awesome ( I wasn’t really fond of Ryan Leslie’s performance).
To honor Whitney Houston (who won for entertainment), Kim Burrell & Jennifer Hudson brought down house with some “sanging”. I love how really talented singers can make a song their own and don’t have to try to sing it the same way as the original.
Honoring the Queen, Queen Latifah that is(who was honored for Media), Jazmin Sullivan and non other than one of my favorite songstress Patti LaBelle took the mic and sang If Only You Knew. Instant chill bumps. I love Patti.
And how can we forget about Puff Daddy (who was honored for Entrepreneurship), that was honored by the great Mary J Blige. Awesome performance. She sang new and the old Mary hits that had the entire crowd bobbing their heads and feeling the groove. In the end Sean Combs gave an emotional and inspirational acceptance speech.
Although the Dangerously Beautiful ladies shined the entire night, these two men put on a great performance. Trey Songs and Stevie Wonder held it down. I’m still in awe that Stevie was humming Invented Sex. So the show was a great success. Check the videos out, you won’t be disappointed.
