Remember this guy?
Let me tell you about this guy…
Thursday night, WMC-Miami…..Me and the hommie Smoothy De Roboter have concocted the game plan for the night. Only, that changes a few times as Smoothy decides to play hooky from work and head out to the beach for some FREE day time shows (while I’m sitting in a cold classroom and a cold library).
We finally set the new game plan, and thus begins our story: When Keeping it Trillaaaaaaaa goes wrong.
We were going here
but what had happened was: We found parking in the same gangster spot as the night before (un milagro). We trekked the blocks to the venue, all the while thinking the cover would be $20. The cover was $40, but I was comped, after all, I am who I am. In the midst of trying to discover Smoothy’s manner of entrance, the doorman let’s him know, “No shorts, midget.” You’re thinking, “But what was he wearing?”

You can thank me for cutting the shorts out of the photo later.
After some deliberation, we head down to another spot to link with the hommie Steve (please-build-me-a-cart-for-free), who gets us both comped. Although, now I’ve entered into unfamiliar territory.

I don’t know the name of the party, I later found out the name of the venue is Dek 23, and I don’t know anyone spinning.
However, me being who I am, these new elements are no worry. I learned long a go that one cannot wait for the vibe to begin, rather one must bring forth the vibe from within </philosophy>. Hence, while though I do not drink, I still get it on & poppin, in my non-dancing way.
Out on the patio (so swanky, they had a covered patio) the atmosphere is nice. But then Steve & Felipe tell Smoothy and me (<— know your grammar, it’s me) that Ron Carroll is going on!!! In all their excitement, it doesn’t matter that I’ve never heard of the one and only Ron Carroll!!
Ron Carroll is (as I was informed) a don of the Chicago house scene. What this translates to we, the uniformed, is that he throws down a helluva good time when on the decks.
He gets going, the music is darn good, and the crowd is reacting. I’ve been an undercover house head for a while, more towards the deep house smooth yet upbeat style, but this stuff just took that sound to another level. Soulful basslines, great chords, crazy percussion, and a pounding back-beat to which you could set your pace maker.

The next DJ, Jay-J, comes on and only builds off the great sounds and vibes floating in the room. He threw a lot more vocal tracks, and it worked!!
(this one is my favorite photo of the night….the background chick kills it…in the good way!)
I leave you with a picture of these shiny happy people. Just goes to show, a good time can be found anywhere you are, because the good times come from within……

I’m not even going to snark on blogging about good times come from the heart.
P.S.- We’ll let Smoothy off the hook…….FOR NOW….
