My first time @ White Room. Peep the Rick-James-like “orange aura”.

dscn6263.JPG Though I missed WYWH, I got the chance to stop by downtown and hear the sounds currently controlling the hipper blogs and ipods across the land. Some call it electro, but for GAME ON sake, we’ll call it hipster-electro….Peep the article I wrote for the Miami New Times.

And now, los fotos:

Ran into Andy, who I haven’t seen since 2006. He asked where I’d been and what I had been up to….You have no idea Andy C, no idea…….
dscn6287.JPG

I also met Jake aka Ewun aka Kill The Noise aka 1/2 of Ludachrist.

dscn6285.JPG

He showed love for the New Times article by hooking me up with a Kill The Noise tee. He should have hollered at A Fair Game for the collab.

Oh yes…stunnas were in the place….Stunna shades at nighttime (note cellular in hand) dscn6259.JPG

It must have been getting good to this guy…

Remember this guy?smoothy

Let me tell you about this guy…

Thursday night, WMC-Miami…..Me and the hommie Smoothy De Roboter have concocted the game plan for the night. Only, that changes a few times as Smoothy decides to play hooky from work and head out to the beach for some FREE day time shows (while I’m sitting in a cold classroom and a cold library).

We finally set the new game plan, and thus begins our story: When Keeping it Trillaaaaaaaa goes wrong.

We were going here wywh.gif
but what had happened was: We found parking in the same gangster spot as the night before (un milagro). We trekked the blocks to the venue, all the while thinking the cover would be $20. The cover was $40, but I was comped, after all, I am who I am. In the midst of trying to discover Smoothy’s manner of entrance, the doorman let’s him know, “No shorts, midget.” You’re thinking, “But what was he wearing?

This guy…..
You can thank me for cutting the shorts out of the photo later.

After some deliberation, we head down to another spot to link with the hommie Steve (please-build-me-a-cart-for-free), who gets us both comped. Although, now I’ve entered into unfamiliar territory.

dscn6209.JPG

I don’t know the name of the party, I later found out the name of the venue is Dek 23, and I don’t know anyone spinning.dscn6207.JPG

However, me being who I am, these new elements are no worry. I learned long a go that one cannot wait for the vibe to begin, rather one must bring forth the vibe from within </philosophy>. Hence, while though I do not drink, I still get it on & poppin, in my non-dancing way.I’d rather pop a bottle before I pop a gat Out on the patio (so swanky, they had a covered patio) the atmosphere is nice. But then Steve & Felipe tell Smoothy and me (<— know your grammar, it’s me) that Ron Carroll is going on!!! In all their excitement, it doesn’t matter that I’ve never heard of the one and only Ron Carroll!!piumps Ron Carroll is (as I was informed) a don of the Chicago house scene. What this translates to we, the uniformed, is that he throws down a helluva good time when on the decks.dscn6223.JPG

dscn6222.JPG He gets going, the music is darn good, and the crowd is reacting. I’ve been an undercover house head for a while, more towards the deep house smooth yet upbeat style, but this stuff just took that sound to another level. Soulful basslines, great chords, crazy percussion, and a pounding back-beat to which you could set your pace maker. let’s get restarted

dscn6230.JPG

The next DJ, Jay-J, comes on and only builds off the great sounds and vibes floating in the room. He threw a lot more vocal tracks, and it worked!!look up

My favorite shot of the night (this one is my favorite photo of the night….the background chick kills it…in the good way!)

I leave you with a picture of these shiny happy people. Just goes to show, a good time can be found anywhere you are, because the good times come from within……

Shiny Happy People

I’m not even going to snark on blogging about good times come from the heart.

P.S.- We’ll let Smoothy off the hook…….FOR NOW….

Bugz In the Attic/Jazzanova 3.26.08

bugz

It’s Winter Music Conference week in Miami, the week I cite as the main reason to live in the 305. WMC has transformed over the years to coincide a number of other conferences and events, but for posterity’s sake, I’ll just refer to it all as WMC.

Tuesday night I was spinning at Studio A, doing a favor for the hommie Vetoe. I took it back to my DJing roots on that one, and actually had fun.

However, this post is about Wednesday night.

I’m not a going out kind of guy. I like live performances, or dope DJ sets, but for the most part, what I want to hear is not played on a regular basis, especially not on South Beach. But oh, the week of Winter Music Conference. I go out every night.

After typical South Beach warfare of parking, Smoothy, Manuvers, and I kept it trilla and found fairly parce-brand parking. We did the outside thing (where Manuvers, I mean someone fronts like they might be on the list) and then went in. First thing I see upon entry-

anonyms1The one and only Anonyms_1 is in the place to be. Much history with Anonyms, and always good to see him out.

Fitzroy said he knew he’d find me out at the Bugz party. Apparently I’m a usual suspect for the boogie of broken beats.
(only the coolest of people check their cell phones the entire time they’re in a discotech)

Daz-I-Kue was on the decks, as well as IG Culture, and they were holding it down proper.

dazmanian devil

The music was hitting soooo hard, the beats, the bass, the soul, I even bought Smoothy una cerveza, though he didn’t put out at the end of the night.

smoothy cerveza

The crowd was definitely in the vibe. It’s infectious, I don’t know how one can avoid but move. I love the bruk!

The three most soulful doods in Miami (honorable mention to Chilean Soul Brother #1)

3illest.jpg

My former baby’s mama was there (note cellie in hand). She informed she had moved back to Miami, to which I informed her I did not know she had left. She left in 2005. That’s a lot of back child support on her end.

baby mama drama

It was soulful, grooving, just what I needed to get me back to the Treehouse and on them beats! Of course, instead I came home and got on that DSM!!

I end this post with this picture:

Remember this face, consider this real-life foreshadowing. Note the sneaky, I-didn’t-do-it expression….for the tale of the next night begins with this culprit…..

adieu

Def Jam’s Secrets To Success!

Though weak on the actual comedy, this video is actually on point. Sad, yet true. No disrespect to the mayor (although I thought that was trick).

last day of Medelink

The pictures are in chronological order, so the story is there for all to see (!).

Ok….Sound check, checked out this 4 man DJ crew, caught some grub in the form of bandeja paisa, in a small loungey area with real cool vibe caught these kids holding it down with their small batch of toys and then….

Went to the main stage, got it on and crackin (hopefully I can steal someone else’s pictures that detail this further) and then hung out with my friends from Kafeina. After the festival, I went back to Kafeina’s studio and we put in work. More from that later. For now, check out one of their videos:

Yuko vs. Yutaka

Friday, March 7th, 2008

My mother should be proud: I have come to Medellin, Colombia and been blessed with my Japanese name. Enter Yuko:yuko10.JPG

yuko5.JPG

Yuko is from Tokyo, Japan. She’s here chilling with the Arepaz crew for our performance today and tomorrow. Yuko means “BIG HEART” in Kanji (those Japanese symbols kid, up your knowledge).

Yuko’s face is a camera because she’s not down to be in front of the camera (she’s a photographer AND a sweets maker).

yuko7.JPG

I told her she’s not doing much to help stereotypes, but that meant nothing to her. Thus, the following are my attempts to catch her off guard.

yuko4.JPG

yuko11.JPG

We were trying to come up with my name in Kanji and finally decided on Yutaka. Yutaka, from what she could translate, means a life in sync; unison amongst mind, heart and soul (and dropping the dope beats from Medellin to Tokyo as well).

yuko1.JPG

Be on the lookout for the Yuko vs. Yutaka battle during Tokyo’s Golden week. Yes, indeed, I’ll be in the place to be (tentatively).
